Be Active To Avoid Being Reactive

Shake the Dirt Off and Keep Going

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

How true, God-like and graceful it is to neglect the senseless people when they choose to throw dirt at us seeing that we are of no use to them anymore, but God chooses the foolish donkeys like us to confound the so called worldly wise people and bring all their ideas to dust. A godly person is one who will use the things of the world to love the people and God's creation which He has given us to in order to make us be thankful to Him. But a worldly person will use people and God's creation, and then will finally throw them out mercilessly when they realize that they are of no use to them materially and financially anymore.

What can be learn from this? Learn to be thankful to people and even animals that has made your life better. I can remember we had a German-Shepard dog named as Stefi Giani. We always considered it as a gift of God and a fifth member of our family. This little fellow gave us great confidence, happiness and comfort during the times I and my Brother were in my teen's and were going through many personal trials. This dog was so intelligent that it knew how to please us personally and individually according to our whims and fancies. I thank God for it and am forever grateful to God for giving it in our lives at a critical point of time. Today I can honestly say, today I am who I am is also because of Stefi Giani making a difference in my life. At the end of its life, I saw the suffering it went through and it broke my heart greatly. At that point of time I moved from my home to my present home base Bangalore. So I saw it when I went back and prayed to God to take it, on that very week God spoke to me that He is taking and have exactly taken it. And I do expect to see Stefi Giani in heaven. Now please do not start a theological argument with me, I say this just to tell you sincerely how much I have loved that small creature that God had given to me and our family as a gift, which made our lives brighter and better. This is why God says, " A righteous man takes care of his animal, but the wicked? Even his compassion is cruel." (CJB, Prov 12:10). I feel pity for the donkey too because the heartless farmer was not having any love towards this animal which has given him profit and kept him from penury, but he was was using it just as a means to fulfill his desire to get profit. Do not be like this heartless, cruel, unthankful, money minded and ungodly farmer. Have a heart of love towards people and even the animals, birds and of all creation that God has entrusted in to your hands to be taken care of. We are stewards of God's creation who should one day give account for every wrong attitude, words and actions that we have allowed by our wrong choices. Live in love towards all creation just like our Heavenly Father and you will be able to treasure those moments for eternity ahead!

I appreciate the donkey's attitude towards his heartless master, it used all the Garbage that these unthankful people threw on it to positively make a difference in its own life. It could have whined, fretted, fumed and cursed them easily and as a result of its own bad attitude, could have easily died and got buried in that well pit itself. Another thing of note is, this donkey after it came out of the pit was not angry and agitated against his heartless master, instead it ran off instead of coming to attack these people. If it had done that, it could have got killed by these heartless people. But thank God for the wisdom, it ran off to be alive and thankful to God for delivering it from the clutches of these ungodly men. This is why the Bible says, "17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”says the Lord. 20 Therefore “ If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Rom 12:17-21). Amen! God will judge all the ungodly, wicked and cruel men who act against us in His own time to punish them as they deserve. But we ought to give, give and keep for-giving all their misdeeds wisely in order to be favored by God and men. Our peaceful prosperity does not depend on others action but our forgiving reaction to it. It depends on us! So be wise, meek and inherit the earth.

When people see no value in us, God sees us so valuable to supply his very own wisdom to glorify Him. When people with Balaam spirit like to beat us coveting for the worldly wages of sin, God opens our mouth to speak prophetic words miraculously to confound their senseless brain. They have got so dull in their sinful wages that they do not even recognize that a donkey is supernaturally speaking to them. It is better to be called a donkey and carry Jesus over us, than to be called the most wise, beautiful, strong and courageous horse and die in the battle field of life without Him. It is better to walk in darkness and insignificance before the world with Jesus, than to walk in the light of the worldly wisdom of this age without Him. May God help us all to apply the lessons that we have learned through this precious story.

MORAL :

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from God.

Much Blessings.....
